Technology is the application of knowledge and skills to solve practical problems. It encompasses a wide range of tools and systems that can be used to improve people’s lives, businesses, and society at large. Examples include a medical device or computer application that can assist in data analysis.
Technology has been around for thousands of years. The first technologies were primitive, but they improved the human environment by making it easier to hunt and gather food, create fires, and build homes. Technology also allows humans to communicate with one another in new ways and solve social problems.
Modern technology involves a complex system of processes and machinery that require extensive training, research, and development. Many types of technology exist today, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), essential for automation and data analytics; Biotechnology, driving breakthroughs in healthcare and agriculture; and Communication Technology.
Other technologies include Entertainment Technology, which enables us to explore new realms of immersive and interactive experiences, such as video games, streaming services, and virtual reality. Green and Clean Technology is aimed at reducing environmental impact and increasing sustainability, such as renewable energy sources, eco-friendly appliances, and methods to reduce waste or pollution.
Interestingly, it is commonly believed that science and technology have a synergistic relationship and that they are co-dependent, interdependent, and mutually influence each other. The field of study that examines the impacts of science and technology on societies is known as Science and Technology Studies.
